Patt Richesin is senior principal for Physician Strategies and Services with more than 35 years of experience in health care management. Her experience includes strategic planning, management service organization development, physician group practice management, primary care group practice development, managed care, at-risk, and shared savings contracting and performance management, financial and operational management, ambulatory care services, and a myriad of hospital/physician relationships. Richesin has a successful track record in working with physician groups in complex settings.
Prior to joining VHA, Richesin served as director, special projects at Providence Health & Services in western Washington leading the Accountable Care Council in managed Medicaid, Medicare, and commercially supported redesigned models of care and contracting. Concurrently, she led the operational design and construction of a multi-specialty facility launched with co-located medical neighborhoods reliant on LEAN principles. Richesin served as vice president for PivotHealth Consulting, where she made valuable contributions to major engagements at Reading Memorial Hospital Medical Group in Reading, Pa., and at Presbyterian InterCommunity Hospital in Whittier, Calif., in improving practice operations and productivity. Richesin also has held chief executive and operations positions in private and public multi-specialty practices, and management services organizations.

Don Hicks, JD
Don Hicks is Senior Principal of Physician Strategies and Services for VHA. He has more than 35 years of experience in both hospital and physician management and is recognized nationally as a leader in health care management. His experience includes strategic planning, business planning, ambulatory care services, physician group management and compensation planning. Hicks has a successful track record in the creation and implementation of new management models in response to the ever-changing needs within the health care marketplace.
Before joining VHA, Hicks was the Executive Vice President of PivotHealth Consulting and led the creation of the firm’s episodic consulting division. Hicks also was a vice president with Health Directions Consulting, where he worked with physician groups and hospitals to address issues in MSO management, physician compensation and revenue cycle management. As chief executive officer of Arizona Integrated Management Services, Hicks managed more than 80 physicians and 350 health care and administrative employees for one of Arizona’s largest medical practice groups.
Hicks holds an undergraduate degree from California State University, Fullerton and a Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law.
James E. Doty
Jim Doty is Senior Principal for Physician Strategies and Services and has more than 38 years of health care experience and specializes in hospital strategic planning, management service organization development, physician group practice management, primary care group practice development, mergers and acquisitions, foundations, and a myriad of hospital/physician relationships. He is a recognized speaker on health care issues from the physician’s point of view.
Doty serves as president and chief executive officer for InstiComm LLC, a business communications technology company, where he focuses on the development of a handheld charge capture and communication device for physicians and their groups. He is a founding partner and CEO of Northern Advisory Group in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, which focuses on business and management consulting with hospitals and major medical practices.
Doty holds an undergraduate degree in Business Management from University of California at Los Angeles.
Maryellen Moore, MA
Maryellen Moore is Senior Director of Physician Strategies and Services for VHA and has more than 25 years of physician, hospital, and consulting experience in ambulatory care operations, product service line and business development, technology implementation, budget management, system design and implementation, revenue cycle management, and strategic problem solving. In addition, she has a proven track record of increasing revenue, operational efficiency, and profitability.
Previously, Moore served as senior vice president of PivotHealth Consulting and led a wide variety of practice management assessments and operational improvement projects, together with the creation of a web-based practice assessment tool. She also was an associate with JHD Group, Inc., a national health care consulting and practice management company providing services to physicians, hospitals, IPAs, and health plans, and managed the building of infrastructures pertaining to clinical and practice management integration.
Moore holds an undergraduate degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a Master of Arts degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University.
Rose Wagner, RN, MA
Rose Wagner is Senior Principal of Physician Strategies and Services for VHA with more than 25 years of experience in health care administration, management, and consulting in physician group practices. In her role, Wagner is responsible for leading and directing physician practice management engagements to improve the overall operational effectiveness of clients.
Prior to joining VHA, Wagner served as senior vice president for PivotHealth Consulting, where she directed material operational changes in practice operations and practice communication processes. Wagner was also the project manager for practice assessments for a for-profit health system’s medical groups in Colorado and Arizona. In addition, she was vice president at B.E. Smith, Inc. where she was responsible for leading and directing executive-level searches for health care organizations.
Wagner holds an undergraduate degree and a Master of Arts degree in Health Services Management from Webster University, in addition to a Registered Nurse degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing.

Deanna Anderson, RN, BSN, MBA
Deanna Anderson has more than 20 years’ experience in health care clinical services and support. The unique strengths she brings to her projects include significant executive and management experience in the business of clinical electronic systems. Anderson has experience working with end users and IT professionals on ambulatory and inpatient hospital EMRs, performing both CPOE and ClinDoc builds and implementations.
Anderson served as a consultant with many different clients in the planning and implementation of clinical management information systems for providers. Anderson also was involved in a wide variety of IT/EMR projects for Community Health Systems, PivotHealth Consulting and H/P Technologies.
Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Marymount University and a Master of Business Administration degree in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.
Nancy R. Babbitt, FACMPE
Nancy Babbitt is a consultant, speaker and author who is passionate about helping practices of all sizes. She advocates for physicians and practice managers, helping them provide quality healthcare in an efficient manner. Babbitt is a nationally recognized expert who specializes in electronic health records (EHR), information technology, and general practice management.
Babbitt was the administrator of the Roswell Pediatric Center in North Atlanta for 23 years helping the practice successfully implement two EHR’s over nine years. Roswell Pediatric Center won the 2003 Davies Award of Excellence from HIMSS, the Healthcare Information Management System Society, for successfully implementing electronic health records and improving their quality of care.
Babbit is a Fellow and Board Certified by the American College of Medical Practice Executives and Past Board Chair of MGMA-ACMPE National Board of Directors. She recently co-authored the book Go-Live: Smart Strategies from Davies Award-Winning EHR Implementations.
Robert Fraschetti, MBA
Robert Fraschetti’s career includes more than 30 years as a health care executive in the non-profit, for-profit and public sectors. He brings a perspective and knowledge of how hospital and physician interests can be integrated that maximizes both the business results and professional relationships missing in many systems across the country.
Fraschetti served as senior consultant with PivotHealth Consulting, where he provided specific executive-level services to major health systems management in the creation of hospital-physician integration strategies. Fraschetti was president and CEO of St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, California, where he created and implemented strategies for new business development, physician integration, and managed care contracting. Under his leadership, St. Jude grew into one of Southern California’s most respected and technologically advanced facilities.
Fraschetti holds an undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Laverne University.
Barry Haberman, MBA
Barry Haberman has more than 30 years of experience in both hospital and physician management. Haberman serves as president of Medical Specialties Managers, Inc., and president of Central Coast Professional Medical Management, Inc., a practice management and billing company in Santa Barbara, California.
Haberman served as senior consultant with PivotHealth Consulting, where he provided tactical and strategic consulting pertaining to radiological services for clients in multiple states. Haberman has assisted hospitals and physicians in the development of medical practices, IPAs and MSOs. Haberman also served as an expert witness for the California Medical Association and private legal practices in California. In addition, Haberman has developed more than 50 publications and presentations related to health care technology, management information systems, contracting and practice management.

Ed Holme, MBA
Ed Holme has more than 30 years of experience in executive management in both medical groups and health plans at the local, regional, and national level. He has a wide range of skill sets, including strategic planning, project management, health plan contracting, turn-around management, senior-level operations, government compliance, provider relations, forecasting-budget preparation, work flow engineering and profit/loss performance management.
Holme served as senior consultant with PivotHealth Consulting and was the interim CEO of the QLIMG in New York, and COO of the Providence Medical Institute in Torrance, California. Holme also was the chief administrative officer for a system-owned health plan in Reno, Nevada, where revenue increased by 60% and membership grew 50% annually for three years.

Irwin Hurn has more than 35 years experience in health care management, finance and research. He has a proven track record in using his insight and expertise to lead intense turnarounds in hospitals, health care systems and medical facilities. An expert at building trust with board members, physicians, executives and other key stakeholder groups, he has led critical organizational transformation initiatives that have produced dramatic improvement in clinical quality, patient safety, employee satisfaction and profitability.
Hurn served in executive leadership roles including CEO, COO and CFO for several health care organizations. He also served as faculty for the Institute for Medical Leadership and was a research biologist for the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, Department of Surgery.

Jeffrey B. Milburn, MBA
Jeff Milburn has more than 30 years of experience in health care administration, management, and consulting in physician group practices. Milburn served as a consultant for Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) focusing on physician compensation for private practices and integrated systems, financial management and payer contracting.
Milburn served as senior vice president at Colorado Springs Medical Center, now known as Colorado Springs Health Partners, P.C. where he was responsible for managed care contracting, analysis, and support for this 95+ physician multi-specialty group practice.

W.D. Bert Newman, MA
Bert Newman has more than 25 years of experience in health management, including home health care, home infusion therapy and medical practice management. He currently serves as COO/CEO for InstiComm, LLC, a medical technology company that develops patient management systems and charge capture software for the medical community.
Newman co-founded and managed one of the original medical management companies, providing total business management for primary care, specialist, and multi-specialty groups. In addition, Newman has directed and managed the formation of medical practices ranging from sole practitioners to multi-specialty groups including medical laboratories and other related ancillary services. Newman also founded, built and managed one of the first health delivery companies specializing in infusion therapy, pharmaceutical supervision and nursing services in an outpatient setting.
Newman holds an undergraduate degree and a Master of Arts degree from Whittier College.
Carolyn Pickles, MBA, FACMPE
Carolyn Pickles has 20 years of experience in practice management and administration in both medical group and hospital settings.
Pickles served as the practice administrator of a 10 provider single specialty group and the manager of a 70 physician billing operation. She has also served as a consultant with PivotHealth Consulting working with physician groups to improve their operations, revenue cycle, contracting and other areas.

Peter A. Rabinowitz
Peter A. Rabinowitz is president of P•A•R• Associates Inc.; a Boston based executive search and selection firm. Rabinowitz works closely with senior corporate officers and Boards to evaluate their selection criteria, define leadership roles and governance structures, and ultimately, assist in the selection of key management personnel for their organizations. Rabinowitz has addressed major health maintenance and hospital/clinical management organizations on such topics as executive selection, compensation, and position analysis and description.
Prior to the establishment of P•A•R• Associates Inc., Rabinowitz was executive vice president of Bartholdi & Company, where he was responsible for handling senior engagements for some of the nation's largest organizations including AT&T, Exxon, Chase Manhattan Bank, and the Federal Home Loan Bank Board.

Phil Scott has 20 years of financial, valuation, corporate advisory, merger and acquisition start-up and restructuring experience, and currently serves as CFA for DS Enterprises. In addition to his research and valuation work, Scott serves as the interim CFO for two public companies.
Scott also has served as chief financial officer for SurgiCare, Inc., PSX, Inc. and The Camden Group and has led these companies through successful restructuring and equity sales. In addition, Scott served as vice president of development for Health Care Partners, Ltd. and Heritage Provider Network, Inc., completing numerous acquisitions.
Scott earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of San Diego.
Brian Slocum, MS
Brian Slocum has more than 25 years of experience in health care management, providing interim executive management services to medical groups, operational systems assessment support and compensation plan reviews. Slocum served as senior consultant with PivotHealth Consulting, where he provided interim executive management to multiple large multi-specialty group clients in Tennessee and California.
Slocum served as chief executive officer with Tanana Valley Clinic, a 48-provider multi-specialty practice, and with Premier Medical Group in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, Slocum served as chief executive officer with Central Medical Management in Jackson, Mississippi, where he developed and operated an innovative Management Service Organization as a joint venture between a large medical group and the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

Steve Wallin has more than 25 years of experience in senior health care management in both the private and academic health care industry. Wallin served as senior consultant with PivotHealth Consulting, where he created numerous business development opportunities with academic medical centers and their physicians. Wallin also provided leadership as president and CEO of Wallin Healthcare Strategies, Inc., a health care consulting firm. As executive director with Tulane University Medical Group in New Orleans, Wallin was responsible for the successful clinic redesign effort resulting in improvements in front-end processes such as insurance eligibility verification, registration accuracy, and pre-certification and authorization.

Wiley served as president/CEO of Practice Management Consultants, Inc., providing a wide range of services to medical groups in the areas of operations and financial management, contract negotiation and administration, multi-specialty practice management, staff and physician relations, CQI methods and quality improvement, risk management and legal affairs, information systems development and implementation, and business development. He also served for several years as the executive director of system clinics for Washington Regional Medical System in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
